Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cans (21 oz each) Apple Pie Filling
- 1 box (15.25 oz) Yellow Cake Mix (or Spice Cake Mix for extra flavor)
- 3/4 cup (1.5 sticks) Unsalted Butter, melted or thinly sliced
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Take a 9×13 inch baking dish and lightly grease it with cooking spray. Open both cans of apple pie filling and pour them directly into the bottom of the dish. Use a spatula or spoon to spread the apples into an even layer, ensuring they cover the entire bottom of the pan.
- Open the box of yellow cake mix and sprinkle it evenly over the top of the apple filling. Use the back of a spoon to level the dry mix, but do not stir it into the fruit. Once the cake mix is spread out, pour the melted butter slowly over the top, trying to cover as much of the dry flour as possible. Alternatively, you can place thin slices of cold butter across the entire surface for a more “crust-like” finish.
- Place the baking dish in the center rack of your oven. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the fruit filling is bubbling up around the edges. Remove from the oven and let it sit for about 10 minutes to set. Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
- Cook Time: 50 minutes
