Ingredients
Scale
- 1 bag (16-32 oz) frozen tater tots (any brand)
- Non-stick olive oil or avocado oil spray (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
- Optional: Garlic powder, onion powder, or smoked paprika for extra flavor
Instructions
- Start by preheating your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3 minutes. This ensures the tots start cooking the moment they hit the basket, which is the secret to that initial sear. Open the bag of frozen tater tots and pour them into the air fryer basket. Spread them out into a single layer as much as possible. While you can overlap them slightly, keeping them in a single layer ensures the best airflow and maximum crispiness.
- Slide the basket into the air fryer and set the timer for 15 minutes. After about 7 or 8 minutes, pull the basket out and give it a vigorous shake. Shaking the tots redistributes them so that every side makes contact with the hot air. If you want them extra crispy, give them a very light spray of oil at this point. Return the basket to the air fryer and finish the cooking cycle. Check them at the 13-minute mark; if they look deep golden brown and feel firm, they are ready.
- Carefully pour the hot tater tots into a large mixing bowl. While they are still piping hot, sprinkle your sea salt and any optional seasonings over the top. Toss them gently to coat. Transfer the seasoned tots to a serving platter or individual bowls. Serve them immediately while they are at their peak crunchiness alongside your favorite dipping sauces like ketchup, ranch, or spicy mayo.
- Cook Time: 17 minutes
