Budget Overnight Oats Meal Prep Under $5 For Week

Budget Overnight Oats Meal Prep Under $5 For Week

  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups Old Fashioned Rolled Oats (Store brand bulk bag)
  • 3 ¾ cups Water or Milk of choice (Use water for maximum savings)
  • 5 tablespoons Peanut Butter
  • 2 Large Bananas, mashed or sliced
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon Salt (to bring out the flavor)
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons Honey or Maple Syrup (if your budget allows)

Instructions

  1. Line up five mason jars, recycled glass jars, or airtight plastic containers on your counter. Using individual containers makes it easy to grab one and go in the morning. Ensure each container is clean and dry before you begin the assembly process.
  2. Add ½ cup of rolled oats to each of the five containers. Follow this with a pinch of salt and a dash of cinnamon in each jar. Stir the dry ingredients slightly so the cinnamon is evenly distributed throughout the oats.
  3. Pour ¾ cup of liquid (water or milk) into each jar. Add one tablespoon of peanut butter and a portion of the mashed or sliced banana to each container. If you are using a sweetener like honey, drizzle a small amount in now. Use a spoon to stir each jar vigorously, ensuring the peanut butter is somewhat incorporated and all oats are submerged in the liquid.
  4. Tighten the lids on all five jars. Place them in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours, or ideally overnight. During this time, the oats absorb the liquid, softening into a creamy, pudding-like consistency without any cooking required.
