Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box (15.25 oz) White or Yellow Cake Mix
- 2 cans (21 oz each) Cherry Pie Filling (or Raspberry for a deep red holiday look)
- 3/4 cup (1.5 sticks) Unsalted Butter, thinly sliced into squares
- 2 tablespoons Christmas-themed sprinkles (red, green, and white)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray or a little bit of butter. This ensures the fruit filling doesn’t stick to the sides and makes cleanup much easier later on.
- Open the cans of cherry pie filling and pour them directly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Spread the fruit evenly with a spatula. Next, sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the top of the fruit. Use a fork to level the surface, but do not stir the cake mix into the fruit. Keeping them in layers is the secret to the texture.
- Place the thin slices of butter across the top of the dry cake mix, covering as much surface area as possible. This butter melts down into the mix to create a cobbler-like crust. Place the dish in the oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes until the top is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling. Immediately after removing it from the oven, shower the top with your festive Christmas sprinkles so they stick to the warm crust.
