Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large head of green cabbage (approx. 2 lbs)
- 3 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
- 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning (low sodium preferred)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Optional: Fresh parsley or a squeeze of lemon for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone mats to prevent sticking. Remove any wilted outer leaves from the cabbage. Place the cabbage on a cutting board and slice it vertically into 1-inch thick rounds. Ensure the core remains intact for each slice to hold the “steak” together during cooking.
- Arrange the cabbage slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, and onion powder. Use a pastry brush to coat both sides of each cabbage steak generously with the oil mixture. Roast in the center rack of the oven for 20 to 25 minutes. At the halfway mark, carefully flip the steaks with a wide spatula to ensure even browning and crisp edges.
- For extra crispiness, turn on the broiler for the last 2 minutes of cooking, watching closely to prevent burning. The edges should be dark brown and charred, while the center is tender. Remove from the oven and let them rest for two minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley or a dash of lemon juice if desired. Serve immediately while hot and crispy.
- Cook Time: 35 minutes
