Instant Pot Oatmeal Easy One Pot Family Grains Breakfast

Instant Pot Oatmeal Easy One Pot Family Grains Breakfast

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups Old Fashioned Rolled Oats (not quick oats)
  • 3.5 cups Water (or a mix of water and almond milk)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons Maple Syrup or Honey
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • Optional toppings: Fresh berries, sliced bananas, nuts, or chia seeds

Instructions

  1. Start by lightly greasing the inner stainless steel pot of your Instant Pot with cooking spray or a small amount of butter; this prevents the oats from sticking to the bottom. Pour in the oats, water (or milk), salt, cinnamon, and maple syrup. Stir the ingredients briefly to ensure the cinnamon is well-distributed and the oats are submerged in the liquid.
  2. Secure the lid on the Instant Pot and set the steam release valve to the “Sealing” position. Select the “Manual” or “Pressure Cook” setting on high pressure and set the timer for 3 minutes. Note that the pot will take about 5 to 10 minutes to reach full pressure before the countdown begins. Once the timer finishes, let the pressure release naturally for at least 10 minutes. This “natural release” period is crucial for the oats to absorb the remaining liquid and achieve a creamy consistency.
  3. Carefully turn the steam valve to “Venting” to release any remaining pressure and open the lid. The oatmeal might look a bit liquidy at first, but give it a good stir, and it will thicken up instantly. Add the vanilla extract at this stage for the best flavor. Ladle the oatmeal into bowls and serve immediately while hot. Let your family customize their bowls with fresh fruit, crunchy nuts, or an extra drizzle of syrup.
