Ingredients
Scale
- 1 can (14 oz) whole berry cranberry sauce
- 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar (packed)
- 1/2 teaspoon orange zest
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- A tiny pinch of salt
Instructions
- Place the canned whole berry cranberry sauce, orange juice, and brown sugar into a small saucepan. Use a wooden spoon to gently break up the sauce so it mixes evenly with the liquid. Set the burner to medium heat and stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Bring the mixture to a very gentle simmer. Do not let it reach a rolling boil, as this can break down the whole berries too much. Stir frequently for about 5 to 7 minutes. This process allows the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly. Once the mixture looks glossy and cohesive, remove the pan from the heat.
- Stir in the orange zest, ground cinnamon, and a tiny pinch of salt while the sauce is still warm. Transfer the cranberry sauce to a glass bowl and let it cool to room temperature. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least two hours before serving. The sauce will continue to firm up as it chills, reaching the perfect spoonable consistency.
- Cook Time: 15 minutes
