Smashed Sweet Potatoes With Hot Honey Crispy Air Fryer Fall Viral Extra

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Diet: Gluten-Free

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb small to medium sweet potatoes (uniform in size)
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons hot honey (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons crumbled feta or goat cheese

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Soften the Sweet Potatoes Wash the sweet potatoes thoroughly to remove any dirt. Place them in a large pot of salted water and bring to a boil. Cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until a fork can easily pierce the center. You want them soft but not falling apart. Alternatively, you can prick them with a fork and microwave them for 5-7 minutes until tender. Drain the water and let them cool for a few minutes so you can handle them safely.
  2. Step 2: Smash and Season Line your air fryer basket with a small piece of parchment paper or lightly grease it with oil spray. Place the softened sweet potatoes in the basket, leaving space between each one. Use the bottom of a heavy glass or a potato masher to press down firmly on each potato until it is about 1/2 inch thick. In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Brush this mixture generously over the tops of the smashed potatoes.
  3. Step 3: Air Fry Until Crispy Slide the basket into the air fryer and set the temperature to 400°F (200°C). Air fry for 12-15 minutes. Check them halfway through to ensure they are browning evenly. You are looking for deep golden-brown edges that look shattered and crispy. If they aren’t crunchy enough for your liking, add another 2-3 minutes to the timer.
  4. Step 4: Glaze and Garnish Carefully remove the potatoes from the air fryer and place them on a serving platter. While they are still piping hot, drizzle the hot honey over each potato. The heat will help the honey seep into the nooks and crannies. Top with fresh chopped parsley and optional crumbled cheese. Serve immediately while the texture is at its peak.
