Ingredients
- 1 large pre-baked pizza crust (or 4 individual flatbreads)
- 1 can (15 oz) of your favorite chili (with or without beans)
- 6–8 slices of white mozzarella or provolone cheese
- 1 small can of sliced black olives
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for extra color)
- Dried oregano or Italian seasoning for dusting
Instructions
-
Step 1: Preparation
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat for easy cleanup. Place your pre-baked pizza crust or flatbreads onto the prepared sheet. Ensure the crust is at room temperature so it heats evenly.
-
Step 2: Apply the Chili Base
Open your can of chili and give it a quick stir. Spread the chili evenly across the pizza crust, leaving about a half-inch border for the crust edges. If you like a cheesier base, sprinkle a small handful of shredded cheddar over the chili layer now to act as “lava” beneath your ghosts.
-
Step 3: Create the Cheese Ghosts
Take your slices of mozzarella or provolone cheese. Using a small paring knife or a ghost-shaped cookie cutter, cut out wavy ghost shapes from each slice. Do not worry about perfection; irregular shapes make the ghosts look like they are floating! Arrange these cheese ghosts on top of the chili layer, spacing them out evenly.
-
Step 4: Bake the Pizza
Slide the baking sheet into the center rack of the oven. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the chili is bubbling and the cheese ghosts have just started to melt and soften. Be careful not to over-bake, as you want the ghosts to retain their distinct shape rather than turning into a puddle.
-
Step 5: Add Spooky Details
Remove the pizza from the oven. Carefully place two small pieces of sliced black olives on each cheese ghost to serve as the eyes. If you want a “screaming” ghost, add a third olive piece for a mouth. Sprinkle a little dried oregano over the chili areas for extra flavor, slice into portions, and serve immediately.
