Viral Shredded Tacos TikTok Famous Smash Street Birria 2026 Easy

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Diet: Vegetarian (variation mentioned)

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Chuck roast, pre-cooked and shredded (or leftover pot roast)
  • 12 Small corn tortillas
  • 2 cups Oaxaca cheese, shredded (or Monterey Jack)
  • 1 cup Birria consommé or beef broth seasoned with chili powder and cumin
  • 1 White onion, finely diced
  • 1 bunch Fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 2 Limes, cut into wedges
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable oil or beef tallow
  • 1 tsp Smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Place your pre-cooked shredded beef into a large mixing bowl. Toss the meat with the smoked paprika, garlic powder, and two tablespoons of the birria consommé. Mix thoroughly until every strand of beef is coated. This ensures that even though we are using a “fast” method, the meat tastes like it has been simmering for hours.
  2. Heat a large flat-top griddle or a heavy cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly brush the surface with oil. Take a corn tortilla and dip it quickly into the remaining birria consommé. Ensure both sides are lightly coated but not dripping wet, as this provides the color and the fat needed for that signature TikTok crunch.
  3. Place the dipped tortilla onto the hot griddle. Immediately spread a generous handful of the seasoned shredded beef over one half of the tortilla. Use a heavy spatula or a burger press to “smash” the beef firmly into the tortilla. This forces the meat to sear and the tortilla to crisp up simultaneously. Sprinkle a handful of Oaxaca cheese over the beef.
  4. Once the cheese begins to bubble and the bottom of the tortilla is golden brown, fold the empty half of the tortilla over the beef and cheese mixture. Press down again with your spatula to seal the taco. Cook for another 60 seconds per side until the taco is rigid and the cheese is oozing out of the edges. Repeat for the remaining tacos.
  5. Transfer the hot tacos to a serving platter. Open them slightly to garnish with the diced white onions and fresh cilantro. Serve immediately with a small bowl of hot birria consommé on the side for dipping and a fresh lime wedge to cut through the richness.
