Winter Apple Cider Drink Easy Cozy Holiday Drink

Winter Apple Cider Drink Easy Cozy Holiday Drink

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Diet: Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-Free, Non-Alcoholic

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups high-quality unfiltered apple cider
  • 2 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 2 star anise pods
  • 1 medium orange, sliced into rounds
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)
  • Fresh cranberries for garnish
  • Extra cinnamon sticks for serving

Instructions

  1. Begin by slicing your orange into thin rounds. You do not need to peel them, as the zest provides a bright, citrusy oil that balances the sweetness of the apples. Gather your cinnamon sticks, cloves, and star anise. If you want a more intense flavor, you can lightly crush the cloves and star anise before adding them to the pot to release their natural oils more effectively.
  2. Pour the apple cider into a large pot or a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat. Add the orange slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and star anise. If you prefer a sweeter drink, whisk in the brown sugar now. Bring the mixture to a very gentle simmer. Once it starts bubbling slightly, reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and let the flavors infuse for at least 20 to 25 minutes. Do not let the liquid reach a rolling boil, as this can cloud the cider and make the spices taste bitter.
  3. Once the cider is fragrant and hot, use a slotted spoon to remove the large spice pieces and cooked orange slices if you prefer a clear drink. Alternatively, leave them in for a rustic look. Ladle the hot cider into mugs. Garnish each mug with a few fresh cranberries and a fresh cinnamon stick for a festive touch. Serve immediately while it is steaming and cozy.
