Ingredients
Scale
- 64 oz high-quality apple cider (unsweetened)
- 16 oz cranberry juice (100% juice blend)
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar (optional, depending on juice sweetness)
- 4 whole cinnamon sticks
- 5 whole star anise
- 1 teaspoon whole cloves
- 2 large oranges, thinly sliced into rounds
- 1 cup fresh cranberries (for garnish and flavor)
- Fresh rosemary sprigs (optional garnish)
Instructions
- Begin by washing your fresh produce thoroughly. Slice the oranges into thin, even rounds and set aside. If you are using a slow cooker, place the cinnamon sticks, star anise, and whole cloves at the bottom. Measuring your spices beforehand ensures a balanced flavor profile that isn’t overwhelmed by any single note.
- Pour the apple cider and cranberry juice into a large pot or a 6-quart slow cooker. Stir in the brown sugar until it mostly dissolves. Add the orange slices and fresh cranberries to the liquid. If using a stovetop, bring the mixture to a very low simmer over medium-low heat; do not let it reach a rolling boil, as this can make the juice taste bitter. If using a slow cooker, set it to “Low” for 2 to 3 hours. This slow heating process allows the spices to infuse deeply into the liquid.
- Once the drink is hot and fragrant, use a ladle to pour the liquid into heat-safe glass mugs or ceramic cups. Make sure each guest gets a few fresh cranberries and an orange slice in their drink for a beautiful presentation. For an extra festive touch, add a fresh cinnamon stick and a sprig of rosemary to each glass before serving. Serve immediately while steaming hot.
