Ingredients

3 medium-sized apples (such as Fuji or Honeycrisp)

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 tablespoon sugar (can substitute with brown sugar for a richer flavor)

½ cup all-purpose flour

1 egg, beaten

1 cup panko breadcrumbs

Cooking spray (or a drizzle of olive oil)

½ cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Optional: chopped nuts or sea salt for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Apples: Start by preheating your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Core and slice the apples into wedges, keeping the skin on for added texture and nutrients.

Toss with Lemon Juice: In a large mixing bowl, toss the apple wedges with lemon juice to prevent browning.

Coat the Wedges: In a separate bowl, mix the cinnamon and sugar. In another bowl, place the flour. Take each apple wedge and coat it first in the flour, then dip it into the beaten egg, and finally roll it in the panko breadcrumbs mixed with the cinnamon-sugar mixture for a crispy outer layer.

Air Fry the Apples: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Place the coated apple wedges in a single layer in the basket (you may need to do this in batches). Air fry for 10-12 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy, shaking the basket halfway through for even cooking.

Prepare the Caramel: While the apple wedges are frying, warm the caramel sauce slightly in a microwave or on the stovetop until it’s pourable.

Serve: Once the apple wedges are done, remove them from the air fryer and place them on a serving platter. Drizzle the warm caramel sauce over the crispy wedges. If desired, sprinkle with chopped nuts or a pinch of sea salt for extra texture and flavor.

Enjoy: Serve immediately while warm and crispy for a delightful treat!
