Ingredients

4 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced

1 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 cup butterscotch chips

1 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Apples: In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated. Let them sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Make the Butterscotch Layer: Stir in the butterscotch chips into the apple mixture, ensuring they are evenly distributed.

Prepare the Crisp Topping: In a separate mixing bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, melted butter, salt, and chopped nuts (if using). Stir until you have a crumbly mixture.

Assemble the Crisp: Spread the apple mixture evenly in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Sprinkle the oat mixture over the top of the apples.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.

Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Serve warm, preferably with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream on top.
