1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

3/4 cup granulated sugar

3/4 cup packed brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 large eggs

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped nuts (optional, walnuts or pecans work great)

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

    Mix the Butters and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy. This should take around 2-3 minutes.

      Add Vanilla and Eggs: Beat in the vanilla extract, followed by the eggs, one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next.

        Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt until well mixed.

          Mix Dry with Wet: Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter-sugar-egg mixture. Stir until just combined; don’t overmix.

            Fold in Chocolate Chips and Nuts: Add the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) to the dough, folding them in with a spatula or wooden spoon until evenly distributed.

              Scoop the Dough: Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop rounded balls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

                Bake the Cookies: Place the baking sheets in the preheated oven and bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the centers look slightly underbaked (they will continue to cook as they cool).

                  Cool and Enjoy: Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
