Ingredients

2 large sweet onions (such as Vidalia or Walla Walla)

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 cup breadcrumbs (Italian seasoned preferred)

1/2 cup melted butter

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

Optional: balsamic glaze for drizzling

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Prepare the Onions: Peel the onions and trim just a small amount off the bottom so they can stand upright. Cut each onion into quarters, but only go about three-quarters of the way down so the layers remain attached at the bottom.

Make the Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the grated Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, minced garlic, chopped parsley, dried oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed.

Stuff the Onions: Gently open up the onion petals and stuff the breadcrumb mixture between each petal, ensuring they are well filled without breaking the petals off.

Prepare for Baking: Place the stuffed onions in a baking dish. Drizzle the melted butter generously over the top of the onions, allowing some to seep between the petals as well.

Bake the Onions: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the onions are tender and the tops are golden brown and crispy.

Serve Hot: Once done, remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Drizzle with balsamic glaze if desired, and serve warm as a stunning appetizer.
