1 ¾ cups granulated sugar

4 large eggs, at room temperature

1 tbsp vanilla extract

1 cup whole milk, at room temperature

For the Berry Compote:

2 cups mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)

½ cup granulated sugar

1 tbsp lemon juice

1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Vanilla Frosting:

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

4 cups powdered sugar

2 tsp vanilla extract

2-4 tbsp heavy cream, as needed

For Garnish:

Fresh berries (your choice)

Edible flowers (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.

    Prepare the Vanilla Cake:

      - In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

        - In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

          - Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

            - Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.

              - Divide the batter evenly among the three prepared cake pans.

                Bake the Cakes:

                  - Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

                    - Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before turning them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

                      Prepare the Berry Compote:

                        - In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the mixed berries, sugar, lemon juice, and vanilla extract.

                          - Cook until the berries have broken down and the mixture is bubbly, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.

                            Make the Vanilla Frosting:

                              - In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and beat until smooth.

                                - Mix in the vanilla extract and add heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired frosting consistency.

                                  Assemble the Naked Cake:

                                    - Place one layer of the vanilla cake on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting over the top, followed by a layer of berry compote.

                                      - Repeat with the second layer, then place the final layer on top.

                                        - Lightly frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting, allowing some of the cake to show through for the naked look.

                                          - Decorate the top with fresh berries and edible flowers if desired.

                                            Chill:

                                              - Chill the cake for about 30 minutes to set the frosting before serving.

                                                Serve & Enjoy:

                                                  - Slice, serve, and enjoy the delightful combination of flavors and textures!
