Go Back
The origins of guacamole can be traced back to the Aztecs in Mexico, who created a version of this dip made from mashed avocados, spices, and lime. The name "guacamole" itself comes from the Nahuatl word "āhuacamolli," which translates to "avocado sauce." Traditionally, it was enjoyed as a nutritious food source, rich in healthy fats and nutrients. Over the centuries, guacamole has evolved and adapted to various cultures and cuisines, leading to countless variations that incorporate ingredients like tomatoes, onions, and spices.

3 ripe avocados

1 medium tomato, diced

1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped

1 garlic clove, minced

1 small jalapeño, seeds removed and finely chopped (adjust to taste)

Juice of 1 lime

1/4 teaspoon cumin (optional)

Salt to taste

Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Cut the avocados in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a medium bowl.

Use a fork or a potato masher to mash the avocados to your desired level of creaminess.

Add the diced tomato, chopped red onion, minced garlic, and jalapeño to the mashed avocado.

Squeeze in the lime juice and sprinkle in the cumin, if using. Season with salt to taste.

Gently mix everything together until well combined, being careful not to over mash.

Taste and adjust seasoning or lime juice as desired.

Garnish with chopped cilantro before serving.
