For the Brownies:

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp baking powder

For the Cream Cheese Swirl:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup fresh blackberries, mashed slightly

Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

    Make the Brownies: In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Remove from heat and stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well combined. In another bowl, mix the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.

      Prepare the Cream Cheese Mixture: In a medium mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Add the egg and vanilla, continuing to beat until creamy. Gently fold in the mashed blackberries, ensuring they are evenly distributed, but do not overmix.

        Layer the Batter: Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly. Then, spoon all the cream cheese mixture on top, spreading it out gently. Finally, dollop the remaining brownie batter on top of the cream cheese layer and use a knife to swirl the layers together just slightly for a marbled effect.

          Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the brownies comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

            Cool and Serve: Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, cut into squares and enjoy!
