Ingredients

1 medium head of green cabbage, chopped

1 lb ground beef (or turkey for a lighter option)

1 medium onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained

1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1 teaspoon paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup cooked rice (optional)

Olive oil for cooking

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onions and minced garlic, sautéing until the onions are translucent (about 3-4 minutes).

Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. Drain any excess fat.

Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, paprika, cooked rice (if using), salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 5 minutes for the flavors to meld, then remove from heat.

In a large baking dish, layer half of the chopped cabbage evenly across the bottom. Spoon half of the beef mixture over it, followed by half of the mozzarella cheese.

Repeat these layers with the remaining cabbage, beef mixture, and mozzarella cheese.

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

After 25 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Let it cool for 5 minutes before serving.
