Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup packed brown sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

3 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons cream of tartar

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons cinnamon sugar (1 tablespoon cinnamon + 1 tablespoon sugar)

1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1/2 cup white chocolate chips (optional)

1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 3-4 minutes.

Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until combined.

Divide the dough in half; press half of the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.

Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the pressed dough, spreading it gently with a spatula.

Optional: Sprinkle the white chocolate chips and chopped pecans over the caramel, if using.

Take the remaining dough and flatten it in your hands, then crumble it over the caramel layer to create a topping. Ensure that there are no large gaps.

Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the top.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges start to turn golden and the center is set. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out with a few moist crumbs.

Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes before drizzling the remaining caramel sauce on top. Cool completely before cutting into squares.
