Ingredients

For the Shortbread Cookies:

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup powdered sugar

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cardamom

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Orange Glaze:

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tablespoons fresh orange juice

Zest of 1 orange

A pinch of salt

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 2-3 minutes with an electric mixer.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and ground cardamom.

Mix Together: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined. Add in the vanilla extract and mix until the dough comes together.

Chill the Dough: Shape the dough into a disc, wrap it in plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Shape Cookies: Roll the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack.

Prepare the Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, fresh orange juice, orange zest, and a pinch of salt until smooth.

Glaze the Cookies: Once the cookies are completely cooled, drizzle the orange glaze over the top of each cookie. Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving.

Enjoy! Serve the Cardamom Shortbread Cookies with a warm cup of tea or coffee and enjoy the delightful blend of flavors.
