Ingredients

For the Cake:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup buttermilk, at room temperature

3 large eggs

2 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

1 cup chopped pecans, toasted

For the Praline Topping:

1 cup brown sugar

½ cup unsalted butter

½ cup heavy cream

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 ½ cups pecans, toasted and roughly chopped

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

4 cups powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

2-4 tbsp milk (as needed for consistency)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

    Prepare the Cake Batter:

      - In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

        - Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the buttermilk and vanilla extract.

          - In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

            - Fold in the toasted chopped pecans.

              Bake the Cake:

                - Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.

                  - Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

                    Make the Praline Topping:

                      - In a saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, butter, and heavy cream. Stir constantly until the mixture comes to a gentle boil. Let it boil for about 2-3 minutes, stirring continuously.

                        - Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and toasted pecans. Set aside to cool slightly.

                          Prepare the Cream Cheese Frosting:

                            - In a mixing bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.

                              - Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until combined. If the frosting is too thick, add milk one tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.

                                Assemble the Cake:

                                  - Place one layer of the cake on a serving plate. Spread a layer of cream cheese frosting on top.

                                    - Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the entire cake with remaining cream cheese frosting.

                                      Top with Praline:

                                        - Drizzle the warm praline topping generously over the frosted cake. Allow it to set for a few minutes before slicing.

Serve: Slice the cake and serve at room temperature. Enjoy the delightful combination of flavors with your loved ones!
