Ingredients

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) instant yeast

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon sugar

1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

½ cup shredded cheddar cheese

¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 tablespoon dried parsley)

1 egg (for egg wash)

1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)

Optional: garlic powder for seasoning

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, salt, and sugar. In a separate bowl, mix the warm milk with the melted butter. Gradually add the milk mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Roll Out the Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick, approximately 12 by 18 inches.

Add the Cheese Filling: Spread the mozzarella, cheddar, and Parmesan cheeses evenly over the dough. Sprinkle the chopped parsley and a little garlic powder (if using) for added flavor.

Cut and Shape the Tree: Cut the dough into triangles, as if you were cutting out a large Christmas tree shape. Start from the top and work your way down, leaving room at the bottom to form the tree trunk. Stack the triangles on top of each other, starting with the largest triangle on the bottom and working up to the smallest on top.

Arrange on Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Carefully transfer the triangle stacks onto the sheet, arranging them to form the shape of a Christmas tree. If desired, twist the triangles slightly for a more festive look.

Second Rise: Cover the assembled bread tree with a kitchen towel and allow it to rise for an additional 30 minutes.

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and 1 tablespoon of milk. Brush the egg wash over the top of the bread tree for a golden finish.

Bake: Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.

Cool and Serve: Allow the bread to cool slightly before serving. Pull apart pieces from the tree and enjoy warm!
