Ingredients

For the Grits:

1 cup stone-ground white or yellow grits

4 cups chicken broth (or water)

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Salt and pepper to taste

For the Shrimp:

1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined

6 slices of bacon, chopped

1 small onion, finely diced

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 red bell pepper, diced

2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Lemon wedges (for serving)

Instructions

Prepare the Grits:

    - In a medium saucepan, bring the chicken broth to a boil over medium-high heat.

      - Gradually whisk in the grits, reduce the heat to low, and simmer, stirring occasionally, until thickened (about 20-25 minutes).

        - Once the grits are cooked, stir in the heavy cream, cheddar cheese, and butter. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cover and keep warm.

          Cook the Bacon:

            - In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Leave about 2 tablespoons of bacon grease in the skillet.

              Saut Vegetables:

                - Add the diced onion and red bell pepper to the skillet and saut for about 5-7 minutes until softened. Add garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

                  Cook the Shrimp:

                    - Add the shrimp to the skillet. Sprinkle with Cajun seasoning and add the Worcestershire sauce. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the shrimp turn pink and opaque.

                      - Stir in the cooked bacon and mix well, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes to combine flavors.

                        Assemble the Dish:

                          - To serve, spoon a generous portion of the creamy grits onto a plate. Top with the shrimp mixture.

                            - Garnish with sliced green onions and chopped parsley. Serve with lemon wedges on the side for an extra zing.
