Ingredients

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup scallions, finely chopped

1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

24 won ton wrappers

Vegetable oil, for frying

Sweet chili sauce, for dipping

Instructions

Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, scallions, cilantro (if using), garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined and creamy.

Assemble the Wontons: Lay a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Place about a teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of the wrapper. Dip your finger in water and run it along the edges of the wrapper. Fold the wrapper in half diagonally to form a triangle, pressing out air as you seal it. Make sure the edges are completely sealed to prevent leaking during frying. For an extra touch, crimp the edges with a fork.

Heat the Oil: In a deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. You can test if it's ready by dropping in a small piece of wonton wrapper; it should sizzle immediately.

Fry the Wontons: Carefully add the assembled wontons to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally for even cooking. Use a slotted spoon to remove the wontons and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serve: Once slightly cooled, serve the crispy cream cheese wontons warm with sweet chili sauce for dipping.

Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 40 minutes | Servings: 4 (makes approximately 24 wontons)
