Ingredients

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

½ cup cocoa powder

1 tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tbsp red food coloring

½ cup buttermilk

1 cup mini chocolate chips

Cream cheese frosting for topping (store-bought or homemade)

Holiday-themed sprinkles

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).

Incorporate Wet Ingredients: Add the egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring to the butter and sugar mixture. Mix until fully combined and the mixture is smooth.

Add Buttermilk: Pour in the buttermilk and continue to mix until just incorporated.

Combine Dry and Wet Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing gently until no flour streaks remain. Be careful not to overmix.

Fold in Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the mini chocolate chips for extra sweetness and texture.

Scoop the Dough: Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake the Cookies: Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft. Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frost and Decorate: Once the cookies have cooled, top each one with a generous dollop of cream cheese frosting. Finish with a sprinkle of holiday-themed sprinkles for a festive touch.
