Ingredients

4 large croissants, preferably day-old

1 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed for best flavor)

Zest of 1 orange

4 large eggs

1/2 cup milk

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup cream cheese, softened and cut into small cubes

1/2 cup chocolate chips or orange-flavored chocolate chips (optional)

2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for garnish)

Fresh mint leaves (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

Prepare the Croissants: Tear the croissants into bite-sized pieces and spread them evenly in the prepared baking dish. If you like, sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the croissant pieces.

Make the Orange Custard: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the orange juice, orange zest, eggs, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined and smooth.

Combine: Pour the orange custard mixture evenly over the croissant pieces, ensuring all pieces are well soaked. Use a spatula to gently press the croissants down so they soak up the custard. Then, tuck in the cream cheese cubes throughout the mixture to create pockets of creamy goodness.

Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. After that, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and the custard is set.

Cool Slightly: Allow the bake to cool for about 10 minutes before serving. This will help it set a bit more and make it easier to slice.

Serve: Dust the top with powdered sugar and garnish with fresh mint leaves. Serve warm, enjoying the delightful mix of orange and buttery croissant flavors.
