Ingredients

6 large croissants, preferably day-old

4 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup fresh orange juice

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon orange zest

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup powdered sugar (for optional icing)

1 tablespoon milk (for optional icing)

1 teaspoon orange zest (for optional icing)

Instructions

Prepare the Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick cooking spray.

Croissant Preparation: Tear the croissants into bite-sized pieces and layer them evenly in the greased baking dish.

Make the Custard: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, fresh orange juice, granulated sugar, orange zest, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.

Combine: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the croissant pieces, ensuring all pieces are soaked. Gently press down with a spatula to help the croissants absorb the custard.

Cream Cheese Layer: In a separate bowl, mix softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. Drop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture over the croissant mixture, making sure it’s distributed fairly evenly.

Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Optional Icing: While the bake is cooling, whisk together icing ingredients (powdered sugar, milk, and orange zest) in a small bowl until smooth. Adjust consistency with more milk or powdered sugar, if needed.

Serve: Drizzle the optional icing over the warm croissant bake before serving. Slice into squares and enjoy warm!
