1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg yolk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon salt

½ cup fruit preserves (strawberry, raspberry, or your choice)

Optional: powdered sugar for dusting

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    Cream the Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

      Add Egg Yolk and Vanilla: Beat in the egg yolk and vanilla extract until well combined.

        Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.

          Shape the Cookies: Scoop out approximately 1 tablespoon of dough and roll it into a ball. Place the dough ball on the prepared baking sheet. Using your thumb, gently press down in the center of each ball to make a small indentation.

            Fill the Thumbprints: Add about ½ teaspoon of your chosen fruit preserves into the indentation of each cookie.

              Bake: Bake the cookies for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Keep an eye on them to prevent over-baking.

                Cool Down: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

                  Optional Dusting: Once cooled, you can dust them with powdered sugar for an extra sweet touch!
