To truly appreciate baked churro bites, it’s essential to delve into the origin and history of churros themselves. The traditional churro is believed to have been brought to Spain by Portuguese explorers, who encountered similar pastries in China. Over time, the churro evolved into the crispy, doughy snack we know today, with its characteristic ridges formed by the star-shaped piping tip used during preparation.

Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Cooking spray

Additional sugar and cinnamon for coating (1/4 cup granulated sugar mixed with 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a mini muffin pan with cooking spray.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix well until blended.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix; small lumps are okay.

Fill Muffin Pan: Using a tablespoon or a small cookie scoop, fill each cup of the prepared mini muffin pan with the batter, filling each about 3/4 full.

Bake: Place the muffin pan in the preheated oven and bake for about 12-15 minutes or until the tops are lightly golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Prepare Cinnamon Sugar: While the churro bites are baking, mix the additional sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl.

Coat Churro Bites: Once baked, remove the churro bites from the oven and let them cool for about 5 minutes in the pan. Then, carefully remove them from the pan and roll each bite in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.

Serve: Enjoy your Easy Baked Churro Bites warm or at room temperature. These delicious bites can be served with chocolate sauce, caramel, or your favorite dipping sauce, if desired!
