Ingredients

2 pounds red potatoes, scrubbed and quartered

4 cloves garlic, peeled and left whole

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup heavy cream (or milk for a lighter version)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh chives or parsley, finely chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Potatoes: Place the quartered red potatoes and whole garlic cloves in a large pot. Cover with cold water and add a generous pinch of salt.

Cook: Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to medium-low and let simmer until the potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.

Drain: Carefully drain the potatoes and garlic in a colander, allowing them to steam dry for a few minutes.

Mash: Return the potatoes and garlic to the pot. Using a potato masher or ricer, mash until smooth or desired consistency is reached.

Creamy Bliss: Stir in the softened butter and gradually add the heavy cream. Mix until everything is well combined and creamy.

Season: Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper according to preference.

Serve & Garnish: Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving dish, sprinkle with freshly chopped chives or parsley, and add a pat of butter on top if desired. Serve warm.
