Ingredients

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp baking powder

½ tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 large egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

½ cup grape soda (plus extra for drizzling)

½ cup sour cream

Purple food coloring (optional)

1 cup powdered sugar (for frosting)

4 oz cream cheese, softened

¼ cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)

1 tsp grape extract (or additional vanilla extract)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake tin with paper liners.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well combined.

In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and grape soda, and mix until combined.

Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until no lumps remain. If desired, add a few drops of purple food coloring to achieve the desired shade.

Fold in the sour cream until fully incorporated, ensuring a moist batter.

Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Once baked, let the cupcakes cool in the tin for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

While the cupcakes cool, prepare the frosting by beating together the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and mix until combined. Add the grape extract (or additional vanilla) and beat until fluffy.

Once the cupcakes are completely cooled, frost them with the cream cheese frosting using a piping bag or a knife.

For added flair, drizzle a bit of grape soda over the frosted cupcakes for a delightful finish. Optional: decorate with grape candies if desired.
