Ingredients

4 cups mashed sweet potatoes (about 4 large sweet potatoes)

1/2 cup pure maple syrup

1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup milk (or almond milk for a dairy-free option)

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup chopped pecans

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup melted butter (for topping)

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for topping)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare Sweet Potatoes: Peel and cube the sweet potatoes. Boil them in a large pot of salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and cool. Mash the potatoes until smooth.

Mix Sweet Potato Base: In a large bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes, maple syrup, melted butter, milk, eggs, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until well blended and smooth.

Transfer to Baking Dish: Pour the sweet potato mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Make Topping: In a separate bowl, combine the chopped pecans, brown sugar, flour, melted butter, and ground cinnamon, stirring until the pecans are well-coated.

Add Topping: Sprinkle the pecan topping evenly over the sweet potato mixture in the baking dish.

Bake: Place in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the casserole is heated through.

Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy this comforting dish at your holiday gatherings!
