Ingredients

4 ripe pears, peeled and diced

1 cup water

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled

1/2 cup coffee liqueur (optional)

1 package (8 oz) mascarpone cheese, softened

1 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

12-14 ladyfinger cookies

Cocoa powder and grated chocolate for garnish

Instructions

In a medium saucepan, combine diced pears, water, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes until pears are soft and syrupy. Remove from heat and let cool.

In a shallow dish, mix brewed coffee and coffee liqueur (if using). Dip ladyfinger cookies quickly into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them.

In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. In another bowl, combine mascarpone cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until combined.

In a 9x9 inch serving dish, layer half of the dipped ladyfingers at the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture on top, followed by half of the spiced pears. Repeat the layers with the remaining ladyfingers, mascarpone mixture, and pears.

Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set.

Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and sprinkle with grated chocolate for a festive touch.
