Ingredients

12 oz string mozzarella cheese (or mozzarella blocks, cut into sticks)

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian seasoned or panko for extra crunch)

¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

½ teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

Cooking oil, for frying

Marinara sauce, for serving

Instructions

Freeze the Cheese: Begin by placing the mozzarella sticks in the freezer for at least 30 minutes to help them retain their shape during frying.

Prepare the Breading Station: In one shallow dish, place the flour. In a second dish, beat the eggs until well combined. In a third dish, mix the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

Dredge the Cheese Sticks: Remove the cheese sticks from the freezer. First, coat each stick in flour, shaking off any excess. Next, dip them into the beaten eggs, allowing the excess to drip off. Finally, roll the sticks in the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring they are fully covered. For extra crispy sticks, repeat the dipping in egg and breadcrumbs for a double coat.

Heat the Oil: In a deep skillet or a pot, pour enough oil to cover the bottom by about 1-2 inches. Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping in a small piece of bread; if it sizzles and turns golden brown, the oil is ready.

Fry the Mozzarella Sticks: Carefully lower a few cheese sticks into the hot oil (do not overcrowd) and fry them for about 1-2 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crisp. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.

Serve: Serve the hot mozzarella sticks immediately with a side of marinara sauce for dunking.
