For the Cake:

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2 large eggs

1 cup milk

½ cup vegetable oil

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup boiling water

For the Cream Cheese Layer:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1 cup powdered sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Chocolate Sauce (optional):

½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

½ cup heavy cream

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.

    Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder.

      Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

        Combine the Mixtures: Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Slowly stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth (the batter will be thin).

          Prepare Cream Cheese Layer: In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with the powdered sugar until smooth. Add the eggs and vanilla, mixing until well incorporated.

            Layer Cake Batter: Pour half of the chocolate cake batter into the prepared pan. Then, gently spoon the cream cheese mixture over the chocolate layer. Finally, pour the remaining chocolate batter on top, being careful not to disturb the layers.

              Bake the Cake: Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan on a wire rack for about 30 minutes.
