Ingredients

12 oz spaghetti

1 lb ground beef or turkey

1 small onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

1 tbsp Italian seasoning

1 tsp sugar

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cups ricotta cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 large eggs

Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook Spaghetti: Bring a large pot of salted water to boil. Add the spaghetti and cook it until al dente according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Prepare Meat Sauce: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or turkey. Cook until browned. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion becomes translucent. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 10-15 minutes.

Mix Cheese Filling: In a large bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese, 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, and eggs. Mix well until creamy and smooth.

Combine Spaghetti and Meat Sauce: In a large bowl, combine the cooked spaghetti with the meat sauce, mixing well.

Layering: In a greased 9-inch pie dish (or a similarly sized round baking dish), pour half of the spaghetti and meat sauce mixture as the first layer. Spread half of the ricotta mixture on top, then layer with the remaining spaghetti mixture and finish with the rest of the ricotta cheese.

Add Mozzarella and Bake: Top with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Cover with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before slicing and serving.
