1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup M&M's chocolate candies (plus extra for topping)

1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions
 

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.

    In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

      Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, ensuring everything is well combined.

        In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.

          Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Be careful not to over-mix.

            Fold in the M&M's and chocolate chips (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

              Spread the dough into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top with a spatula. Sprinkle additional M&M's on top for added color and crunch.

                Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the center is set. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out with a few moist crumbs.

                  Allow the cookie bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then lift them out using the parchment overhang and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

                    Once cool, cut into squares or bars and enjoy the decadent, chewy goodness!
