Ingredients

1 large round Italian bread (Muffuletta bread, if available)

1/2 cup olive salad (see notes for homemade recipe)

1/2 pound mortadella, thinly sliced

1/2 pound salami, thinly sliced

1/2 pound ham, thinly sliced

1/2 pound provolone cheese, thinly sliced

1/2 cup black olives, pitted and chopped

1/4 cup green olives, pitted and chopped

1/4 cup roasted red peppers, sliced

1-2 tablespoons olive oil

Salt and pepper, to taste

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Olive Salad (if making homemade): Combine black olives, green olives, garlic, onions, and roasted red peppers in a bowl. Add olive oil, vinegar, herbs, salt, and pepper. Mix well and set aside to marinate for at least 30 minutes.

Prepare the Bread: Slice the large round Italian bread in half horizontally. If the bread's interior is too soft, gently scoop out some of the inner bread to create space for stuffing.

Layer the Ingredients: Spread a generous amount of the olive salad on the bottom half of the bread. Next, layer the mortadella, salami, ham, and provolone cheese. Adjust portions according to your preference.

Add Olive Salad and Seasoning: Top the cheese layer with more olive salad, ensuring to include some of the chopped olives and roasted peppers. Drizzle olive oil lightly over the sandwich and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.

Close and Compress: Place the top half of the bread on the sandwich and press down gently to compact the layers. For added pressure, you may wrap the sandwich in parchment or plastic wrap and place a heavy object on top for about an hour to meld the flavors.

Slice and Serve: Slice the sandwich into wedges or quarters for easy serving. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley if desired.

Prep Time: 30 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour (plus marinating time) | Servings: 6-8
