Ingredients

For the Cake:

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

2 1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups granulated sugar

4 large eggs

1 tbsp vanilla extract

1 cup whole milk

Zest of 1 orange

1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice

For the Creamsicle Frosting:

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

4 cups powdered sugar

1/4 cup whole milk

1 tbsp vanilla extract

1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice

1/2 tsp orange zest

Orange sprinkles (for decoration)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer on medium speed until the mixture is light and fluffy (about 4-5 minutes).

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Incorporate the vanilla extract, orange zest, and orange juice, mixing until fully combined.

Combine Flour Mixture: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture in three additions, alternating with the whole milk (starting and ending with the flour mixture). Mix until just combined.

Bake the Cake: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.

Prepare the Frosting: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing on low speed until incorporated. Add the milk, vanilla extract, orange juice, and orange zest, and continue to mix until the frosting is smooth and fluffy.

Assemble the Cake: Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of the creamsicle frosting on top. Place the second layer over the frosting and use the remaining frosting to frost the top and sides of the entire cake.

Decorate: Sprinkle orange sprinkles on top for a fun touch and add any additional decorations if desired.

Serve: Slice the cake and enjoy a slice of this refreshing and creamy dessert that tastes just like a classic creamsicle!
