Ingredients

1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed

3 tablespoons unsalted butter

2 cloves garlic, minced

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)

A pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

Blanch the Green Beans: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the trimmed green beans and cook for about 3-4 minutes until they are bright green and tender-crisp.

Ice Bath: Immediately transfer the green beans to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Let them cool for a few minutes, then drain and set aside.

Prepare the Garlic Butter: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant and golden, being careful not to burn it.

Cook the Green Beans: Add the drained green beans to the skillet. Toss to coat them in the garlic butter. Season with salt, pepper, and optional red pepper flakes for a bit of heat. Sauté for another 3-5 minutes until heated through and coated.

Finish with Lemon: If using, drizzle the lemon juice over the green beans just before serving for a fresh zing. Toss gently to combine.

Serve: Transfer to a serving platter and enjoy warm as a delicious side dish!
