Ingredients

1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed)

1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1 egg (for egg wash)

1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)

1 tsp lemon zest

1 tbsp cornstarch

Pinch of salt

Optional: extra powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

Prepare the Puff Pastry: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet to smooth out any creases. Cut into a large rectangle, approximately 12x8 inches.

Make the Strawberry Filling: In a medium bowl, combine the sliced strawberries, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cornstarch, lemon zest, and a pinch of salt. Mix gently and set aside to macerate for about 10 minutes.

Prepare Cream Cheese Mixture: In another bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. This will be the base layer for your Danish.

Assemble the Danish: Transfer the rolled-out pastry onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cut 1-inch slits along the edges of the pastry every 2 inches, making sure not to cut into the center rectangle. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the center of the pastry. Spoon the strawberry filling onto the cream cheese layer.

Fold the Pastry: Gently fold the slits of the pastry over the filling, alternating sides, to create a woven pattern.

Egg Wash: In a small bowl, beat the egg with the milk. Brush the egg wash over the pastry for a golden finish.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.

Cool and Serve: Allow the Danish to cool for about 10 minutes. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving. Slice and enjoy your delightful Strawberry Danish warm or at room temperature!
