Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend for flavor)

1/2 lb ground pork

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 medium onion, finely chopped

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 large red bell pepper, diced

1 tablespoon chili powder

1 tablespoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

1/4 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)

1 cup beef broth

2 tablespoons tomato paste

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon soy sauce

Juice of 1 lime

Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Instructions

Sauté the Aromatics: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper, cooking until soft (about 5 minutes). Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.

Brown the Meat: Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef and ground pork. Use a wooden spoon to break up the meat and cook until browned and no longer pink (about 8-10 minutes). Drain any excess fat.

Spice It Up: Once the meat is browned, add the chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Stir to coat the meat evenly in the spices for about 2 minutes.

Add the Flavoring Ingredients: Pour in the beef broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and lime juice. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.

Simmer The Mixture: Reduce the heat to medium-low and let the mixture simmer uncovered for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to meld and the liquid to reduce slightly.

Taste and Adjust: After simmering, taste the taco meat mixture and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Add more lime juice or seasoning as desired.

Serve and Garnish: Remove from heat and let it rest for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.

Prep Time, Total Time, Servings: 15 minutes | 45 minutes | 4-6 servings
